Jonathan Clay "JJ" Redick (born June 24, 1984) is an American former professional basketball player who is currently the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. He played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils, where he was a consensus first-team All-American and helped the team win the 2004 NCAA Championship. Redick was selected 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA draft.
Redick spent six seasons with the Magic, where he quickly became a reliable 3-point shooter. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013, and then to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014. With the Clippers, Redick helped the team reach the playoffs in each of his four seasons, including two appearances in the Western Conference semifinals. In 2017, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played for three seasons before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2021.
Stats and Accomplishments
Over his 15-year NBA career, Redick has established himself as one of the league's most prolific 3-point shooters. He ranks 12th all-time in 3-pointers made (2,016) and 20th in 3-point shooting percentage (.449). Redick has also been a valuable contributor on both ends of the court, averaging 12.8 points per game and shooting 45.7% from the field.
Redick was a member of Team USA in the 2012 Olympics in London, where he won a gold medal. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2007.
Post-Playing Career
After retiring from the NBA in 2021, Redick joined ESPN as an NBA analyst. He has also worked as a guest commentator for Fox Sports and the YES Network. In 2022, Redick was hired as the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, becoming the first former NBA player to coach the team.
